What is the uterus?

The the uterus is called the uterus (womb). Gray's Anatomy (1918) describes it as a hollow, pear-shaped muscular organ.

Where it is

  • In the pelvis, between the bladder in front and the rectum behind.

  • Its cervix opens into the top of the vagina.
