What is the hip joint?

The the hip joint is called the hip joint. Gray's Anatomy (1918) describes it as a ball-and-socket synovial joint.

What it is

  • Allows movement in all directions and bears the weight of the body.

Where it is

  • Where the thigh meets the pelvis.
  • Deep inside the groin.
