What is the brachioradialis?

It is called the brachioradialis. Gray's Anatomy (1918) describes it as a superficial muscle of the forearm.

What it is

  • A superficial muscle of the forearm.
  • Runs down the thumb side of the forearm.
  • Bends the elbow, especially when the forearm is in mid-position.

Where it is

  • On the outer side of the forearm, between the elbow and the wrist.
  • Arises from the lower end of the humerus.
  • Inserts near the styloid process of the radius.
