What is the stomach?

The the stomach is called the stomach. Gray's Anatomy (1918) describes it as a muscular, sac-like organ.

What it is

Where it is

  • In the upper left of the abdomen, just below the diaphragm.
  • Between the esophagus above and the duodenum below.
  • Curves from left to right across the upper abdomen.
