What is the right ventricle?
The right ventricle is called the right ventricle. Gray's Anatomy (1918) describes it as the lower right chamber of the heart.
What it is
- The lower right chamber of the heart.
- Has a thinner wall than the left ventricle.
- Pumps deoxygenated blood into the pulmonary artery to reach the lungs.
Where it is
- In the front of the heart, forming most of its front surface.
- Receives blood from the right atrium through the tricuspid valve.
- Empties into the pulmonary trunk through the pulmonary valve.
