What is the pubis?

The front part of the hip bone is called the pubis. Gray's Anatomy (1918) describes it as the front part of the hip bone.

What it is

  • The front part of the hip bone.
  • Its two bodies meet in front at the pubic symphysis.
  • Contributes to the front of the acetabulum.

Where it is

  • At the front of the pelvis.
  • Below and in front of the ilium.
  • Joins its pair in the midline at the pubic symphysis.
