# What is the meniscus?

It is called the meniscus of the knee. Gray's Anatomy (1918) describes it as a pair of C-shaped pads of fibrocartilage in the knee.

## What it means

- A pair of C-shaped pads of fibrocartilage in the knee.
- One on each side of the joint — medial and lateral menisci.
- Deepen the top of the tibia and cushion the joint.
